| Supporting Students Working Toward Proficiency |
For students who have not yet reached proficiency in technical skills or require Specially Designed Instruction (SDI), use the following technical workflows to modify the pace and complexity of materials.
Customizing Content:
To edit material in a course, click the three dots on the far right of a lesson element and select "Make a Copy." This creates a duplicate of the element (prefixed with "copy") that you can fully customize (title, content, number /type of questions).
Targeted Editing: Click the Edit option on the left-hand side of your copy. Use this to:
Reword complex questions into simpler language.
Reduce the number of distractors in multiple-choice questions.
Chunk larger assignments into smaller, manageable tasks.
Discrete Assignment: Use the "Enable for some students..." feature (via the three-dot menu) to assign these scaffolded versions only to specific students. This ensures that students receive the support they need without drawing unnecessary attention to the differentiation.
Time Accommodations: For students with IEP or 504 plans requiring extended time, navigate to the Settings tab on the left. You can adjust the "Time Limit" for the entire class or override it for individual students to meet specific accommodation requirements.
Vocabulary & Linguistic Supports
To assist students with academic, professional, and technical language—including figurative language, idioms, or industry-specific jargon—utilize these embedded tools:
Embedded Glossary: Stukent text automatically bolds key technical terms. Direct students to the Glossary for immediate definitions as they read.
Pre-Teaching Strategy: Identify high-density vocabulary sections and provide a "word walk" or guided discussion on these terms prior to the main instruction. This lowers the cognitive load for English Learners (ELs) and students with reading gaps.
Enrichment and Extension for Proficient Students
For students who have already demonstrated proficiency in the core content, use the platform to provide "depth and complexity" rather than just more of the same work.
Advanced Application: Use the "Make a Copy" workflow to edit existing projects. Replace basic recall questions with high-level synthesis or evaluative tasks (e.g., instead of "Define X," ask students to "Analyze the economic impact of X in a global market").
Independent Extensions: Use the "Enable for some students..." tool to release advanced case studies, industry certification-level practice exams, or bonus modules specifically to those who have tested out of the standard curriculum.
Peer Mentorship: Assign proficient students the role of "Technical Lead" for group projects, tasking them with documenting the workflow or troubleshooting for their peers—a key professional skill in any CTE career path.
Pro-Tip: By utilizing the "Enable for some students" and "Settings" tools, you can maintain a single digital classroom environment while providing a highly personalized learning path for every student in your room.
