Stukent CTE General Curriculum Overview

Stukent CTE courses set up as “a-la-carte” resources scoped and sequenced to fit the needs of course standards. This means that, while there is a general order to the course, each lesson comes fully-stocked with resources that the teacher can choose from in order to fit their and their students’ instructional and learning needs. These resources fall into three main categories, as shown in the image below. In red are the content delivery options. In yellow are the formative and summative assessments. In blue are the activities. While the lesson below incorporates 12 different resources, the amount of resources will vary from lesson to lesson.

Content Delivery - Red

Watch, Read, Discuss, and Glossary provide multiple ways for your students to receive information. Watch is going to be a 10-15 minute content video, with motion graphics and narration by a young, business professional. Text is going to walk your students through a digital text, with bolded and highlighted glossary terms as well as images. Class Discussion comes with a downloadable Powerpoint presentation and guide for the teacher, while the students will be assigned guiding questions to follow along. All three of these options cover the same material, but different delivery style. Glossary will show your students all of their terms and definitions for the given lesson.

Formative and Summative Assessments - Yellow

Recall gives students the opportunity to answer open-ended questions related to the content they learned in Watch, Read, and/or Discuss. Glossary Quiz asks students to match glossary terms with their correct definition. Lesson Quiz is a multiple choice assessment related to the content covered in Watch, Read, and/or Discuss. The Glossary Quiz and Lesson Quiz are auto-graded assignments, meaning student grades will automatically be given once the assignment has been submitted. Assignments such as Recall and those discussed below in Activities are teacher-graded meaning the teacher must click into the assignment and manually give a grade, either to each student or selected students at one time using our Bulk Actions feature.

Activities - Blue

While resources in the activities sections will vary, most ask students to work in a group, talk with a neighbor, or work alone on an open-ended prompt, matching, or instructions to an activity. Ethics prompts students with an ethical scenario in which they must discern what the “Right” decision or response is. Activity is going to allow students to apply what they learned in the lesson, and will give students instructions on what actions to take. These resources include learning objectives, measurable objectives, and key terms for the teacher and students alike. Lastly, some lessons, like the one shown above, incorporate an At the Bell bellringer video that is directly related to the topic or objectives covered in the lesson. This resource comes with a three- to five-minute video and discussion questions that can be answered aloud as a class, or within the platform.

Stukent CTE Pacing and Lesson Planning

While Stukent CTE allows for all teachers to take their own approach to pacing and sequencing, below you will find two options that have been shown to work well. It should be noted that these plans are based on planning for a 50-minute class period. While the notation for pacing underneath each resource is listed, they are over-estimations. It is likely that the class could work through any content delivery resource in 15 minutes. Activities vary in the amount of time needed for completion, which is heavily reliant on the depth a teacher is aiming for.

Option 1 - Content Day 1, Assessment Day 2

Day 1 - The teacher has enabled two resources for content delivery and three activities. Day 1 will likely start with the At the Bell bellringer and discussion, then students will follow the teacher through the Powerpoint presentation in Discuss and review Glossary terms. Then students will be given instructions for “Activity: 1-1 Marketing: Good, Bad, or Undecided?”. If time allows, students will complete “Activity: 1-1 Product, Placement, Price, and Promotion (4P’s)”.

Day 2 - The teacher has enabled three resources for assessment and one activity. The teacher may choose to start the class by going over Recall that could have been assigned for homework on Day 1, or used as the bellringer for Day 2. Then, the class will transition to the Glossary Quiz and Lesson Quiz. Finally, the teacher could use the remaining class time to review the correct answers for the two assessments, or choose to take the students through one more application activity with “Activity 1-1: Create a Product or Service”.

Option 1 Notes

The teacher may have chosen to use the lesson video and/or text instead of the Class Discussion.

Option 2 - Deliver and Assess Day 1, Application Day 2

.

Day 1 - The teacher has enabled three resources for content delivery, two resources for assessment and one activity. Day 1 will likely start with the At the Bell bellringer and discussion, then students will work their way through either the video or text, with or without teacher guidance. Finally, students are given a chance to show what they know with the Glossary and Lesson Quizzes. The teacher may choose to spend remaining class time reviewing the results of the assessments with students and allowing for make-up work or corrections.

Day 2 - The teacher has enabled one resource for assessment and three activities. The teacher may choose to start the class by going over Recall that could have been assigned for homework on Day 1, or used as the bellringer review for Day 2. Then, the class will transition to a series of activities helping them apply what they learned the previous day, get creative, and problem solve. No matter the order chosen for each Activity or Ethics challenge, students will see what they took in the day before playing out in Day 2.

Option 2 Notes

The teacher may have chosen to use the Class Discussion instead of the lesson video and/or text for a more teacher-paced class Day 1.
